Commissioner Tang Ping-keung, inspected a passing-out parade as a reviewing officer at the Hong Kong Police College on November 21. He hoped that the graduates will apply “wisdom, humanity and courage” in their work and continue to safeguard Hong Kong.
In his speech, the Commissioner said that Hong Kong has experienced illegal and violent incidents over the past year. With the perseverance and resolute law enforcement actions of police officers, as well as the public support, the community has gradually returned to normal. While staying vigilant against the resurgence of violence, the Force must rebuild a sense of security in the community and consolidate again the public support, he added.
The Commissioner hoped that police officers would understand the meaning of “With faith, we go farther”, and be able to fulfil their aspirations to guard Hong Kong. He also hoped Force members could transform their faith into strength to enhance the Police's ability to maintain the law and order, and at the same time, applied “wisdom, courage and humanity” in their work.
He shared three verses of Confucius in “The Analects” with graduates, reminding them to distinguish right from wrong, keep abreast of the latest situation, not to believe in rumours lightly, adhere to the people-based principle by handling cases in an honest, fair and just manner, and be a wise, courageous and responsible officer.
The Commissioner said that he is proud of being a policeman as the Force stood firm in face of violence and the epidemic during the year, and the Police had worked closely with the public to combat the virus and safeguard Hong Kong. He is also proud of the graduates as they have chosen to join the Force when the law and order of Hong Kong is facing huge threat.
The Police organised a passing-out parade on that day for a total of 173 officers including 46 probationary inspectors and 127 recruit constables graduated in September and November this year.
