Former Commissioner Lee Ming-kwai gave an interview to the Police Community Relations Officer of Central District (CDIST) on November 8, during which he shared how he was inspired to join the Police Force in the 1970s, despite his family having some disagreements at the time about him becoming a police officer.
After retirement in 2007, Mr Lee continued to make contributions to society by advising the Hong Kong Government on youth development. With rich experience and exemplary service in the public sector, Mr Lee dedicated much time in the field of professional training, hoping that his experience could help groom future leaders. Currently, Mr Lee is the Executive Director of the Hong Kong Institute for Public Administration, which is a non-profit training institute providing training mainly to the public sector in Mainland China, as well as police officers in Hong Kong. Over the years, he also assisted the Endeavour Education Centre in arranging a number of Mainland visits for teachers in Hong Kong in order to let the participants understand more about the Motherland’s history, culture and recent developments in various aspects.
Speaking of his views about the advantages of the younger generation in Hong Kong, Mr Lee pointed out that young people nowadays have better financial conditions and are capable of using the latest technologies and accessing information. Mr Lee concluded the interview by encouraging young people to develop self-discipline, self-reliance and self-empowerment.
With a view to sharpening his culinary skills, Mr Lee has learned from professional chefs after his retirement. He said, “I love eating so I enjoy cooking.” Mr Lee opines that young people should learn how to cook as that is a life skill to prove one’s ability to take care of oneself and others. After the interview, Mr Lee demonstrated how to cook a simple, healthy and tasty dish – spaghetti with tuna and mushrooms. In front of the camera, Mr Lee effortlessly demonstrated how the dish was done step-by-step and shared his cooking tips. While Mr Lee was showcasing his cooking skills, the kitchen was quickly filled with a delicious aroma and happy laughter.
District Commander Lam Hung-chuen and Deputy District Commander Liauw Ka-kei of CDIST, as well as Chairmen of CDIST Junior Police Call (JPC) Honorary President Council and CDIST Senior Police Call (SPC) Honorary President Council also came to the filming venue to support the production crew.
