Hong Kong Police Force becomes Yazhou Zhoukan’s 2019 ‘Person of the Year’ 


The weekly magazine Yazhou Zhoukan selected the Hong Kong Police Force as ‘Person of the Year’ for 2019, to applaud the Force for maintaining law and order in Hong Kong during a critical time and for being a pillar of stability in society and the guardian angel of Hong Kong people.

Police College gets Programme Area Accreditation status


The Hong Kong Police College obtained Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) Status from the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications, making the Force the first non-tertiary education institution and government department to achieve PAA status in the vocational and professional education and training sector. With this status, the Police College is entrusted to conduct learning programmes recognised under the Qualifications Framework (QF) in the programme area of Law Enforcement and Security Studies up to QF Level 5.

Force receives 15 Year Plus Caring Organisation Logo


The Force was awarded the 15 Years Plus Caring Organisation Logo by the Hong Kong Council of Social Service in recognition of the Force’s corporate social responsibility practices in caring for the community, its employees and the environment.

Anti-coronavirus Contingent is set up and JPC@Pat Heung Quarantine Centre opens


To help combat COVID-19, the Force established a Police Anti-coronavirus Contingent comprising some 60 regular officers and some 120 retired police volunteers to support various government departments in implementing anti-pandemic measures. The JPC@Pat Heung was also used for quarantine starting March 31 and provided more than 200 quarantine units for the government.

Traffic Branch Headquarters introduces e-ticketing


The Traffic Branch Headquarters launched the ‘e-Ticketing Pilot Scheme’, under which traffic wardens can make use of a mobile application installed in official smartphones to capture the data of offending vehicles, and print fixed penalty tickets about parking contraventions on a portable printer. The scheme aims to minimise human error, eliminate differences in handwriting interpretations, improve overall accuracy and streamline the workflow in back-end processing.

Video by Police College and Force Escort Group wins global QUESTAR Award 


The Hong Kong Police College and the Force Escort Group jointly produced a video clip to promote the high level of professionalism, teamwork and commitment displayed during escort operations. The clip won a Bronze Award in the ‘Non-Profit Organizations – Safety’ category of the international QUESTAR Awards 2020.

Integrity Audit Action Group is formed 


To strengthen integrity management and take proactive action against misconduct, the Force established the Integrity Audit Action Group (IAAG). The IAAG comprises 15 officers and reports to the Assistant Commissioner (Service Quality), who reports directly to the Commissioner. The functions of the IAAG include proactive investigation against serious misconduct and illegal activities involving Force members, timely identification and rectification of duty-related systemic risks, and enhancement of supervisory accountability.

Anti-scam mascot ‘The Little Grape’ meets the public


The Police Public Relations Branch introduced a new anti-scam mascot called ‘The Little Grape’ to disseminate anti-scam messages short and sweet to members of the public, who could in turn share the tips with family and friends to avoid anyone falling victim to fraud.

Force establishes National Security Department



The Force established the National Security Department on July 1 for executing the Hong Kong National Security Law. The Deputy Commissioner of Police (National Security) heads the Force’s department for safeguarding national security, while the National Security Department is under the command of the Director of National Security and is assisted by two Assistant Commissioners of Police (National Security).

Force gains recognition as Mental Health Friendly Supreme Organisation


The Force attained the title of ‘Mental Health Friendly Supreme Organisation’ by meeting the objectives of promoting mental wellbeing at the workplace and creating an inclusive and friendly work environment for colleagues who have mental distress conditions listed in the Mental Health Workplace Charter.

Theme song ‘Safeguard Hong Kong’ and ‘OffBeat On Air’ debut





Renowned musician Kenny Bee produced a new song called ‘Safeguard Hong Kong’ as a token of appreciation for the Force’s devotion to serving the public. The music video of the song was awarded ‘Outstanding Creative Video’ and ‘Outstanding Music Video’ in the Mainland’s ‘Police Video Exhibition 2020’. A new inhouse produced programme ‘Offbeat On Air’ debuted, replacing the long-running programme co-produced by the Police Public Relations Branch and Radio Television Hong Kong, to continue to disseminate messages about crime fighting and prevention to the public.

Kowloon East Regional Headquarters Complex holds grand opening


The new Kowloon East Regional Headquarters Complex started operation. The 16-storey complex brings under one roof 10 police formations that were once spread all over East Kowloon, to enhance overall command and operational efficiency of the region to better equip the Force for future challenges.

The National Flag is hoisted and National Anthem is played for first time at passing-out parade


For the first time, the National Flag was hoisted and the National Anthem was played at the passing-out parade at the Police College. It was also the first time Commissioner Tang Ping-keung inspected the passing-out parade as a reviewing officer in his capacity as Commissioner of Police.

Radios of Fourth-Generation Communications System enter service


The Operations Wing and the Information Systems Wing started delivering Fourth-Generation Command and Control Communications System (CC4) Radios to various frontline police formations in three phases on December 14. The CC4 Radio is more compact than the previous model and is equipped with a longer battery life and some new features, greatly enhancing officers’ communication and operational efficiency.

Force wins Global Most Innovative Knowledge Enterprise Award 2020


The Force was recognised as the Most Outstanding Winner of the Global Most Innovative Knowledge Enterprise (MIKE) Award. The Global MIKE Award represents the highest level of accolades in the field of knowledge management.
