The year 2024 marks the 180th anniversary of the Force. To commemorate this important milestone, the Force has designed a 180th anniversary logo that is modelled after the Chinese ruyi knot, a traditional item of blessing which sends wishes for smooth-sailing days ahead. Bearing this auspicious meaning, the logo symbolises peace and longevity, as well as the unity and determination of the Force in upholding national security and keeping Hong Kong as one of the safest and most stable cities in the world.
Apart from the special logo, extensive preparations have been under way since 2023 to organise celebratory events with the theme, 'Safeguarding our city beyond 180 years'. These activities are designed to showcase the professionalism of the Force and enhance communication with the community. Key events include National Security Education Day cum Hong Kong Police Force 180th Anniversary Police College Open Day, and the Pat Heung Race.
A variety of anniversary souvenirs have also been launched starting end-2023 to enhance public understanding of the Force and foster a sense of belonging among colleagues.
The Chinese New Year gift box blends the traditional 'Dragon' zodiac sign into celebratory and traditional handcraft to mark 2024 as the Year of the Dragon on the Chinese lunar calendar and send sincere wishes to the public.
The set of model cars comprises (from left) the Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau's operation vehicle, the traffic patrol car, the saloon of the Commissioner of Police, the small patrol car and the Police Tactical Unit's tactical bus. These models are photographed against a replica of the Police College's parade grounds and the locally named 'River Kwai Bridge', signifying the rite of passage that requires all recruits to be trained in marching in the grounds, and to pass through River Kwai Bridge as they leave the grounds after graduation to symbolise their completion of all basic training and becoming police officers. Graduates of the Police College inherit the excellent traditions and values of the Force, demonstrating the qualities of loyalty and courage to meet the rising expectations of the public, tackle difficulties and overcome challenges.
The anniversary calendar features 12 police units alongside buildings of Hong Kong and the Force. It contains different elements that can be mixed and matched to show how the Force has evolved over time to adapt to changes and work with the public to safeguard the city.
