Nine people arrested in police operation
Crime officers of Yuen Long District have arrested eight men and a woman in a two-day operation (September 12-13) in connection with two theft and robbery cases in which more than $8.6 million worth of digital cameras were stolen.
The operation was conducted on September 12 after a victim of the theft case told Police on September 11 that two of his stolen digital cameras were up for sale in a shop in Tsim Sha Tsui. Subsequent raids in two other branches of the same shop in Mong Kok and Causeway Bay led to the arrest of four male staff members aged 37 to 51 for allegedly handling stolen goods. A total of 29 digital cameras were recovered.
Two other trading companies in Kowloon Bay and Mong Kong were also raided on the same day with 253 digital cameras being recovered. A woman, 50 and two men aged 30 and 37 were arrested for allegedly handling stolen goods.
Crime officers continued the operation this morning (September 13) and raided two other trading companies in Tsim Sha Tsui and Kowloon Bay. They arrested a 48-year-old man and a 49-year-old man were arrested respectively for allegedly handling stolen goods.
The theft case occurred on June 18 in which more than 1,500 digital cameras worth more than $1.5 million were stolen from a medium goods vehicle on Choi Yuen Road in Sheung Shui.The vehicle wasstolen in Wang Yip Street East in Yuen Long earlier the same day.
Another robbery case occurred at 7.15pm on February 8 when a 30-year-old man was driving his container truck along Ping Ha Road in Yuen Long. He was stopped and pushed to the rear seat by two culprits who then drove the truck away. When the truck arrived in Hing Wah Street West in Lai Chi Kok, he was tied up by the culprits before they left. About 7,000 digital cameras worth $7.1 million were taken from the vehicle.
The nine arrested persons are being detained for enquiries.
Investigations by District Crime Squad of Yuen Long are continuing.
