Marine Police seized $25 million worth of suspected smuggled goods
Marine Police seized some $25 million worth of suspected smuggled goods at To Kwa Peng last (December 11) night during an anti-smuggling operation.
At about 8 pm, officers of the Small Boat Division spotted two unlit speedboats with cargos onboard travelling northeast from the vicinity of Tap Mun to leave Hong Kong waters.
Officers then signaled the speedboats to stop but they accelerated to avoid Police interception. After a hot pursuit, the five men on board ran their crafts aground and fled ashore at To Kwa Peng.
A large quantity of suspected smuggled goods comprising animal furs, leather, used mobile phones, digital cameras and LCD panels were found onboard the speedboats, with an estimated value of over $25 million.
The case was handed over to the Customs and Excise Department for follow-up actions.
