Appeal for information on fatal accident case at sea
Police today (August 21) appealed to members of the public to provide information on a fatal accident case in which a 66-year-old man died after being hit by a speedboat in Tseung Kwan O on August 19.
At about 3.15 pm on August 19, Police received a report that a 66-year-old man was injured after being hit a speedboat which was towing a banana boat with three passenger on board at Clear Water Bay Second Beach in Tseung Kwan O.
Initial enquiry revealed that the man was swimming at sea off 400 metres from the shore when the incident occurred. He was reportedly hit by a speedboat driven by a 51-year-old man who was the captain of the boat. He was picked up by the captain and rushed ashore for assistance.
The man was certified dead by the ambulanceman at scene and the captain was subsequently arrested for endangering the safety of others at scene. He has been released on Police bail.
The case is being investigated by the Regional Crime Unit of Marine.
