Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island
Police officers issued a total of 362 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 5 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (July 12) and a total of 154 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 218 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 144 for other traffic offences.
One hundred and two pedestrians and one hundred and seventy-six drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 1463 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island in January to June this year.
Of them, 54.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
