Sheung Shui Division

Sheung Shui Division (SSDIV) got a case report on October 10 afternoon from the staff of the charitable organisation Silence, who claimed that a donation box in its Integrated Service Centre for the Deaf and Visually Impaired in Sheung Shui had been stolen. Sergeant Tam Siu-tung and Police Constable Tsoi Yuen-seng from Patrol Sub-unit 4 of Sheung Shui Division (PSU 4 SSDIV) made a quick response to the report. They enquired with the staff and reviewed the CCTV footage. The officers collated the information provided by the staff and CCTV images to locate the suspects. The case was subsequently handed over to District Investigation Team 4 of Tai Po District.

Although they knew little about sign language, the two officers of PSU 4 SSDIV communicated with the hearing-impaired staff of Silent through body language to facilitate investigation. To prevent recurrence of similar incidents, the two officers made anti-theft recommendations to the staff to enhance their awareness of theft-prevention. The empathy demonstrated by officers in their performance shows exactly the professional image of the Force. The founder of Silence wrote a thank-you letter to express his gratitude to the officers.

Frontline officers are always busy with their daily duties. However, as long as they treat cases with their hearts and serve the public with empathy, they can surely maintain the Force’s positive image and consolidate the public’s trust in the Force.

Officers of PSU 4 SSDIV are praised for serving the public with empathy.
