Anti-Deception Coordination Centre (ADCC) provided online training for Scams Response Team (SRT) officers on May 20 to enhance their communication skills with the victims and their response capability.

Superintendent of Commercial Crime Bureau Ho Yui-kuen led Senior Inspector of ADCC Lam Pui-hang to brief the attendees on prevalent defrauding tricks, possible difficulties that SRT officers may encounter at the scene and the suggested responses. Force Clinical Psychologist Fung Ho-kin analysed from multiple perspectives how scammers manipulate the victims’ mentality of fear. He also made recommendations to the officers on effective communication and trust-building with victims.

ADCC has been keeping close information exchange with banks to identify victims of scams at an early stage. If required, ADCC will promptly deploy SRT officers in the District concerned to the location of the victims to explain the situation and encourage them to report their cases. Given that the scammers are good at devising various means to master the mental weaknesses of the victims, SRT officers are often faced with numerous difficulties while persuading victims. The training has facilitated SRT officers in understanding the victims’ emotional state and enhancing the officers’ effective communication with victims to prevent them from pecuniary losses.
