On December 15, 2020, Tuen Mun District (TMDIST), with the assistance of Emergency Unit of New Territories North, mounted a joint exercise inside the Tuen Mun Light Rail Depot with the Fire Services Department and MTR Corporation Limited (MTRC) with a view to strengthening inter-departmental communication and capability in handling emergencies. The exercise simulated an incident in which a suspected mentally disordered person caused a minor explosion by igniting a cassette gasoline can inside a Light Rail train compartment, resulting in multiple casualties. With good communication and coordination, the departments managed to rescue all casualties in an efficient manner whereas the Police arrested the suspect upon conducting a sweep.
On January 5, 2021, TMDIST invited MTRC’s Head of Corporate Security and Operations Manager (Light Rail and Bus) to a meeting to exchange experience in crime prevention. In the meeting, the managements discussed the prevalent crimes occurred at MTRC’s railway network and malls as well as relevant crime prevention measures; enhanced security arrangement to prevent intrusion and damage; and future’s collaboration plan, including establishing direct communication channel for intelligence exchange and arranging TMDIST officers to share experience with MTRC’s staff.
