COVID-19 changes the way of communication globally and video conferencing (VC) and telecommunicating are common tools to maintain social distance. Inevitably, various units of the Force have been conducting video conferences with external and internal stakeholders for the purposes of crime prevention, road safety, public relations and training, etc.
To support the surging need for VC and the Force’s Strategic Direction of “Embracing the use of technology for policing in the digital age”, the Information Systems Wing (ISW) has introduced a new All-In-One VC Smartboard Solution. On top of providing an All-In-One VC Smartboard with a built-in 4K camera and a microphone for external VC, secure internal VC service has also been introduced for various Force units to conduct secure internal VC in order to enhance internal communication for operation, management, training and other events. The smartboard solution has also incorporated leading VC technology in the market such as automatic speaker identification and screen sharing of whiteboard.
In December 2020, Smartboards were deployed to various major Formations, including the Headquarters Command and Control Centre, the Police Tactical Unit Headquarters and all Regional Higher Commands with connection tested. More Smartboards will be deployed in phases to other Formations and all District Operations Rooms from January 2021 for enhancing operational communication, and training workshops would be provided to corresponding users.
