The Information Systems Wing (ISW) continues to improve Case Management and Investigation System (CMIS) to facilitate case handling and provide more convenient services to the public.
In addition, CMIS has launched an upgraded version of the “ID Card Scanner” with an increased accuracy to over 98 per cent. The upgraded “ID Card Scanner” can be used to scan all Hong Kong Smart Identity Cards, Macao Identity Cards, passports and Exit-Entry Permits for travelling to and from Hong Kong and Macao. To raise the accuracy of scan results, ISW introduced artificial intelligence checks, such as confirming the check digit of Hong Kong Identity Card number and Chinese Commercial Code verification of Chinese names, etc. The scanners are able to input directly the identification documents of a large number of arrested persons into CMIS, thereby raising the efficiency of frontline officers and reducing errors caused by manual input. A trial run of the new-generation scanner was conducted during a mass arrest operation at North Point Police Station on October 1, 2020. Furthermore, between October 12 and 16, four report rooms at Kwai Chung, Hung Hom, Aberdeen and Cheung Sha Wan police stations also participated in the trial scheme.
“ISW will continuously upgrade CMIS in digitalising workflows to support frontline officers, raising operational efficiency and providing enhanced services to the public”, said Chief Inspector Li Wing-kam of Major Systems Division of ISW.
