About Us

A wide variety of training courses are run at the Hong Kong Auxiliary Police Force (HKAPF) Headquarters by staff from the Auxiliary Support Bureau. If you apply to join the HKAPF and your application is successful, you will be enrolled as Police Constable (Auxiliary) and invited to attend the 'Recruit Police Constables (Auxiliary) Basic Training Course'. After successful completion of the course, you will be posted to a police formation and be required to complete the 'Statutory Efficiency Training' annually.


Recruit Police Constables (Auxiliary) Basic Training Course

A Recruit Police Constable (Auxiliary) is required to attend a Basic Training Course which comprises 370 hours and spreads over 26-33 weeks.

Each recruit is required to attend 2 to 3 evening sessions (usually 7:00 – 11:00 pm) per week in the HKAPF Headquarters, No.12 Wang Chiu Road, Kowloon Bay. He/she will receive training in laws; police practices and procedures; police rules and regulations; and Chinese foot drill. In addition, a recruit is required to attend half-day/full-day training sessions on weapon and tactics at the Hong Kong Police College and the ranges of Hong Kong Police Force on Saturdays, Sundays or General Holidays. The completion is marked by a passing-out parade which is a marching parade held at the HKAPF Headquarters, to which family members are cordially invited.

Recruit Police Constables (Auxiliary) Special Basic Training Course

Special Basic Training Course was introduced in 2003 to provide basic training to new recruits who are undergraduate students recruited under the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme. The content of which is identical to the Basic Training Course. There is one intake of the course in each year and it is approximate 12-week full time training programme held in Summer.


Statutory Efficiency Training

An Auxiliary member is required to complete the Statutory Efficiency Training each year, which is as stipulated in Regulation 3 of the HKAPF Regulations, Cap 233A. The requirements as to efficiency are:

  • Annual Continuation Training [7 consecutive days (56 hours)];
  • Range Course (8 hours in two sessions);
  • Training Day (24 hours in six sessions);
  • Practical Training : Crowd Management/Pre-Planned Operations (24 hours);
  • Practical Training : Beat Duty (72 hours);and
  • Practical Training : Crowd Management/Pre-Planned Operations or Beat Duty (24 hours).

For beat duty practical training and crowd management practical training, Auxiliary members normally work shifts of 8 hours and are often free to choose their preferred dates and timeslots [e.g. A Shift (7:30 am – 3:30pm); B Shift (3:30 – 11:30 pm); C Shift (11:30 pm – 7:30 am)].

For training days and 4-hour range courses which are usually held during the evening hours on weekdays or weekends.

An Auxiliary member, who meets the above requirements, is normally eligible for a bounty award. A member who fails to comply with the requirements will be deemed to have provided unsatisfactory service and may be subject to warnings or be required to retire, as appropriate.


Other Courses

Fourth Generation Command & Control Communications System (CACCS 4) Training

CACCS 4 training is provided for Auxiliary members volunteering to join the Auxiliary Communication Cadre. The Cadre will provide staff for Regional Command and Control Centres (RCCC) in an Internal Security situation. The training consists of an induction course for Non-CACCS 4 trained members and refresher course for trained members. Having completed the induction/refresher courses, Cadre members will have to perform 48 hours of continuation training at a designated Regional Command and Control Centre each financial year.

Sergeants (Auxiliary) Promotion Course

Police Constables (Auxiliary)/Senior Police Constables (Auxiliary) recommended for promotion to the rank of Sergeant (Auxiliary) will undergo a Sergeants (Auxiliary) Promotion Course in accordance with regulations detailed in HKAPF Standing Orders. This course will consist of 120 hours of training at the HKAPF Headquarters conducted by the Training Unit of Auxiliary Support Bureau. The topics covered will be both theoretical and practical and designed to equip promotees with the necessary professional skills to supervise at the Sergeant (Auxiliary) rank.

Station Sergeants (Auxiliary) Promotion Course

Sergeants (Auxiliary) recommended for promotion to the rank of Station Sergeant (Auxiliary) by the Force Selection Board will undergo a Station Sergeants (Auxiliary) Promotion Course in accordance with regulations detailed in HKAPF Standing Orders. This course will consist of 120 hours of training at the HKAPF Headquarters conducted by the Training Unit of Auxiliary Support Bureau. The topics covered will be both theoretical and practical and designed to equip promotees with the necessary professional skills to command at the Station Sergeant (Auxiliary) rank.

Inspectors of Police (Auxiliary) Promotion Course

Junior Auxiliary members who are qualified in accordance with HKAPF Standing Orders and who have passed the Force Selection Board for promotion to the rank of Inspector (Auxiliary) will attend this course. This course will consist of 270 hours of training at the HKAPF Headquarters and prior to completion of the course candidates are required to sit and pass the Inspectorate Standard I Professional Examination in accordance with regulations detailed in HKAPF Standing Orders.

Leadership and Command Course

Newly promoted Chief Inspectors of Police (Auxiliary) and Superintendents of Police (Auxiliary) who have been recommended by the promotion board, will attend the corresponding courses to prepare them for the duties and responsibilities of a higher rank and also to assess and develop their command and leadership potential.

Senior Staff Seminars

Senior Auxiliary members may attend short seminars under the Management Development Programme organized by the Professional Development Learning Centre of the Police College. The seminars cover various aspects of policing, including operational, managerial, technological, and so on.

Additional Training

Other types of training a member may receive, such as:

  1. Living-the-Values Workshops; and
  2. Train-the-Trainer Modules (TTM) for Assistant Training and Staff Relations Officers (ATSRO AUX).
