Marine Police seize contraband products worth $5.3 million
Marine Police yesterday (October 8) arrested a man and seized a large quantity of electronic products worth $5.3 million in Tung Chung.
About 8.50pm yesterday, officers of Marine Outer Waters District and Marine West Division on an anti-smuggling operation spotted goods being unloaded from a medium goods vehicle onto two speedboats at Sha Tsui Tau. When police officers swooped, the speedboats sped away but the medium goods vehicle was intercepted and the male driver was arrested.
A large quantity of contraband electronic products including computer hard disks, digital camcorders, digital cameras, LCD monitors and integrated circuits worth $5.3 million were seized.
The 39-year-old driver, who was arrested for allegedly assisting in the export of unmanifested cargo, was released on bail pending for further enquiries. The case will be handed over to the Customs and Excise Department for further action.
