Drug abusers in the Mainland sent back to HK (with photo)

Police today (July 18) received 30 Hong Kong residents, aged 20 to 52, arrested in the Mainland earlier for drug abuse offences and repatriated by the Shenzhen Public Security Bureau back to Hong Kong.

Hong Kong Police and its Mainland counterparts pay close attention to drugs abuse by Hong Kong residents in the Mainland and will continue to tackle cross-boundary drugs abuse.

Hong Kong residents are also urged not to abuse drugs when visiting entertainment premises in the Mainland to avoid breaching of laws and regulations in the Mainland.

These persons were handed-over to Hong Kong Police via the boundary control point on the Huanggang side. The Social and Welfare Department will arrange the staff from Non-Government Organisation to assist these persons with rehabitation services. Most of them are willing to accept such assistance.

The repatriate arrangement aims to spread anti-drug message to Hong Kong residents, reiterating that it is an offence to abuse drugs whether in Hong Kong or in the Mainland. Hong Kong residents who were arrested for drug abuse offences in the Mainland will be detained for 15 days, liable to a fine of RMB 2,000 and criminal record.
