Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island
Police officers issued a total of 388 Fixed Penalty Tickets (FPTs) and 12 summonses to road users violating traffic regulations during a two-day operation of the Regional Traffic Day on Hong Kong Island.
The operation concluded at 7pm today (April 24) and a total of 170 officers from Traffic Hong Kong Island and District Traffic Teams of Eastern, Wan Chai, Central and Western were deployed to enforce traffic regulations at traffic black sites on Hong Kong Island.
A total of 316 FPTs were issued for illegal parking and 72 for other traffic offences.
Twenty-one pedestrians and 209 drivers were cautioned for committing minor traffic offences.
Meanwhile, pamphlets and leaflets on road safety were also distributed to road users.
Statistics revealed that a total of 752 traffic accidents involving casualties occurred on Hong Kong Island from January to March this year.
Of them, 55.1 per cent were attributed to the negligence of pedestrians.
