Appeal for information on fatal traffic accident in Mong Kok

Police are investigating a traffic accident in which a 31-year-old man was killed while six other men and six women were injured in Mong Kok today (October 17).

Shortly before 4.30 pm, a double-decker bus driven by a 46-year-old man was travelling along the first lane of northbound Waterloo Road. Upon reaching outside
45-57 Waterloo Road, it reportedly lost control, rammed against a traffic light, railings and an awning of a building and knocked down four pedestrians on the pavement.

After the impact, a 31-year-old male pedestrian was trapped underneath the bus and was rescued by firemen. The pedestrian together with the bus driver were rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where the former was certified dead at 5.30 pm.

In addition, five men and six women comprising three pedestrians and eight bus passengers aged between 23 and 72 were sent to Kwong Wah Hospital for medical treatment.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, Kowloon West are proceeding.
