Man sentenced for using false instrument
A 53-year-old man convicted of using a false instrument was sentenced to undertake 120 hours of community service at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts today (September 5).
The court heard that the man presented a US Silver Certificate with face value US$1 million to a bank on Chung On Street in Tsuen Wan and requested for an exchange on November 10, 2005. Staff of the bank found the certificate suspicious and reported the case to the Police.
The case was then taken over by the Commercial Crime Bureau. The certficate was confirmed to be a counterfeit and the man was arrested on November 18, 2005 at his residence.
The 53-year-old man was charged with using a false instrument. He was earlier convicted at the Tsuen Wan Magistrates' Courts on August 22, 2006 and the sentence was handed down today.
