Traffic arrangements for Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery
Police will implement special traffic arrangements and crowd control measures in the vicinity of Tseung Kwan O Chinese Cemetery to facilitate grave-sweepers during the Ching Ming Festival.
A Police spokesman said today (March 10) that the access road leading to the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery will be closed to all vehicular traffic except emergency vehicles between 5.30 am and 8 pm on March 19, 26 and April 2, 5,9 and 23.
Only emergency vehicles, hearses, vehicles taking part in funeral procession and vehicles possessing valid entry permits will be allowed to use the access road leading to the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery between 5.30 am and 6 pm on March 12, 18, 25 and April 1, 8, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 29, 30 and May 1 and 5.
The Kowloon Motor Bus Company will provide shuttle bus service, Route No. 14S, which will operate between the eastbound Lei Yue Mun Road east of St. Antonius Girls' College and the Tseung Kwan O Chinese Permanent Cemetery between 7 am and 5.25 pm on March 12, 18, 25 and April 1, 8, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 29, 30 and May 1 and 5.
Temporary taxi stands will be designated at the following locations to facilitate grave-sweepers going to or leaving the cemetery:
(1) eastern kerbside of Lei Yue Mun Road southbound outside the Fuk Tak Temple for dropping-off passengers between 5.30 am and 6 pm on March 12, 18, 25 and April 1, 8, 14, 15, 16, 17, 22, 29, 30 and May 1 and 5; and
(2) western kerbside of Ko Chiu Road northbound outside Ko Cheung Court for dropping-off and picking-up passengers on March 12, 18, 19 and April 22, 23, 29, 30 and May 1 and 5.
The spokesman emphasised that apart from the periods mentioned above, road closure will be implemented and shuttle bus service will be suspended at any time if the situation warrants.
He reminded grave-sweepers to make full use of public transport to access the cemetery and pay attention to radio broadcast on the latest traffic situation before going to the cemetery.
"When the special traffic arrangements begin to take place, no vehicle will be allowed to enter or leave the cemetery," he stressed.
For the safety of the public, Police would divert grave-sweepers from places which are already over-crowded. On normal days, if vehicles build up in the adjacent roads leading to the cemetery, police may divert them to leave the area.
Motorists are advised to pay attention to traffic signs which will be placed in the vicinity of the cemetery. Police officers will be on hand to guide motorists.
The public are also urged to exercise restraint and to be courteous to the elderly and children in crowded places.
