Drug trafficker sentenced to jail

A 36-year-old man was sentenced to jail for 28 months at the District Court today (March 2) for trafficking in dangerous drugs and obstructing police officers in the due execution of their duties.

The court heard that acting on intelligence received, officers of Police Narcotics Bureau intercepted the 36-year-old man after he left his residence on Yuk Nga Lane in Tseung Kwan O at 7 pm on August 9, 2005.

A subsequent search in the unit led to the recovery of 332 grams of ketamine contained in 18 plastic bags, an electronic scale and a large quantity of plastic bags. The market price of the drugs seized could reach $65,500.

He was arrested and subsequently charged with trafficking in dangerous drugs.

Since the man had shouted his dogs to attack the police officers in order to drive them away when the officers brought him to his unit to conduct a house search. He was also charged for obstructing police officers in the due execution of their duties.

He pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 26 months' imprisonment for the trafficking in dangerous drugs charges and two months' imprisonment for the charge of obstructing police officers in the due execution of their duties, making a total period of imprisonment for 28 months at the District Court today.
