Man jailed for trafficking in a dangerous drug
A 20-year-old man was sentenced to 11 years' imprisonment for trafficking in dangerous drugs at the High Court today (February 9).
The court heard that following extensive investigations on intelligence collected, officers of the Narcotics Bureau conducted a search at the 20-year-old man's residence at 21 Mau Lam Street in Yau Ma Tei on June 30, 2005.
A mixture containing 571 grams of heroin and some packaging paraphernalia were found inside the man's premises. Police officers arrested the man who returned home shortly afterwards.
The haul could fetch about $290,000 if sold in the retail market.
The defendant was subsequently charged with one count of trafficking in a dangerous drug.
He pleaded guilty to the charge at the Eastern Magistrates' Courts on December 9, 2005 and sentencing was meted out at the High Court today.
