Fatal traffic accident in Tai Po
Police are investigating a fatal traffic accident in which a 38-year-old woman died and a 38-year-old man were injured in Tai Po early this (January 15) morning.
Shortly before 2.30 am, a private car driven by a 38-year-old man was travelling along Fanling Highway towards Tai Po Tai Wo Road. After entering the slip road of Tai Po Tai Wo Road, it reportedly ran out of control and rammed into the right side kerb and overturned.
Sustaining injuries, the 38-year-old driver and a 38-year-old female passenger were respectively sent to Alice Ho Miu Ling Nethesole Hospital and Prince of Wales Hospital for treatment. The female passenger was later certified dead at 6.50 am. The male driver was also transferred to the Prince of Wales Hopsital subsequently.
The driver was later found to have exceeded the prescribed limit of alcohol in the post-accident breathalyser test and was arrested for drink driving. He was released on bail pending further enquiries.
The case will be handed over to the Special Investigation Team of Traffic New Territories North for investigation.
