CDIST

On March 9 evening, the Force received a request for assistance from a man who said that he had lost contact with his father, a 73-year-old suffering from dementia, when he was in Sheung Wan.

Upon receiving the report, Sergeant To, Police Constables Ho and Cheng, Auxiliary Sergeant Wan and Auxiliary Police Constable Lam of Patrol Sub-unit 4 of Central District (CDIST) arrived at the scene promptly. The officers made effort to comfort the informant first and then started the search soon after recognising the case. They also released the physical features of the missing old man to facilitate search conducted by other colleagues. After a 45-minute search, the officers found him outside the Hollywood Road Park and checked his situation immediately. It was fortunate that he suffered no injury.

The son of the old man wrote a complimentary letter to praise the officers for their professionalism. Faced with cases of various nature every day, officers of the Force perform their duties wholeheartedly and professionally. Everyone is dedicated to maintaining the positive image of the Force and enhancing the citizens’ trust in the Force.

Translation of the informant’s appreciation letter to the Force:

…I would like to express my commendation and appreciation to the Police for their assistance. I called the Police to seek their assistance in looking for my father today, who has been suffering from dementia. He was lost in Sheung Wan this afternoon. When the Police officers arrived at the scene, in addition to pacifying me, they asked me for information about my father proactively and accompanied me to look around in Sheung Wan. Eventually, the officers located my father outside a park on Hollywood Road in Sheung Wan. They also gave me some advice on avoiding recurrence of such mishaps in the future. Thanks again to the Police!

TKODIST

Tseung Kwan O Police Station received a traffic complaint in the small hours of April 21 alleging that a taxi parked illegally at Choi Ming Public Transport Interchange in Tiu Keng Leng caused traffic obstruction. Officers of Patrol Sub-unit 4 of Tseung Kwan O District (PSU 4 TKODIST) arrived at the scene for action. After assessing the situation, the officers decided to contact the person-in-charge of the taxi fleet to have the related taxi driven away so that potential hazards to the traffic or road users could be avoided.

While waiting patiently for the taxi fleet manager, two officers of PSU 4 TKODIST directed and eased the traffic flow at the scene. Upon arrival of the responsible person, the officers told him about the case patiently and explained why the taxi had to be driven away and the potential risks posed by illegally parked vehicles to other road users. The officers also expressed that they understood the difficulties faced by the industry during the pandemic.

The taxi fleet manager subsequently wrote a letter to the Force to express appreciation for the professionalism of the two officers. He was convinced that it would help consolidating police-community relations. In fact, the Force has been serving the public with professionalism and empathy. The performance of two officers in this case is an excellent example, showing that public confidence in the Force can definitely be enhanced.
