To enhance the professional sensitivity of Access Officers in caring for the needs of persons with disabilities, the Support Wing organised a seminar on accessibility for Access Officers in the Force on December 28, 2021.


In his opening remarks, Senior Superintendent of Support Wing Yeung Yuk-leung stressed that the Force supports the Government’s policy of providing a barrier-free environment for persons with disabilities and will continue to enhance the accessibility of police premises.


Representatives of the Hong Kong Federation of Handicapped Youth, the Hong Kong Blind Union and the Hong Kong Association of the Deaf were invited to the seminar to share the skills of communicating with persons with disabilities. The participants also took part in experimental activities to experience the needs of persons with disabilities when using public services and facilities. Afterwards, a representative of the Fire Services Department explained in details on how to better assist persons with disabilities during a fire evacuation. Lastly, Chief Inspector of Force Data and Access to Information Coordinator Tang Yuen-chi talked about the roles and responsibilities of the Force Access Coordinators and Access Officers.


Around 70 officers attended the event and they expressed that their understanding of persons with disabilities were enhanced through the seminar and experimental activities. The Support Wing will continue to run similar seminars with an aim of promoting the integration of the able-bodied and persons with disabilities.
