The Narcotics Bureau (NB) hosted a “Hotel Industry Anti-Drug Sharing Session” for the Hong Kong Hotel Association at the Police Headquarters on January 4. The event comprised a sharing session and an exhibition to disseminate anti-drug messages and tips for combating drug activities in hotels to 180 representatives from 56 hotels.

In her opening address, Chief Superintendent of NB Ng Wing-sze said that the sharing session aimed to spread anti-drug messages to frontline hotel staff, heighten their alertness to drug activities and enhance the Force’s collaboration with the hotel industry to build a drug-free Hong Kong.

During the sharing session, officers briefed the participants on different types of prevalent drugs in Hong Kong, reasons of hotels being exploited for drug activities, ways to identify suspicious characters, case studies and relevant legislation. In addition to a question and answer session, NB set up seven counters to exhibit dummy drugs, paraphernalia for drug inhalation and drug scent simulators, with a view to further enhancing the participants’ vigilance and garnering their support for combating drug activities.

The participants expressed that the event enhanced their capability of identifying drug activities in hotels. They also gained a better understanding of the difficulties encountered by the Force in combating drug activities and showed their willingness to assist in investigation. NB will continue to cooperate closely with stakeholders and promote anti-drug messages to the public.
