A total of 20 officers from the Quick Reaction Force of New Territories North (QRF NTN) and the Emergency Unit of New Territories North (EU NTN) completed a certificate course in “Mountain Search and Rescue Training” at the Civil Aid Service (CAS) Headquarters from October 4 to 8. The course aimed to train officers to safely and effectively discharge frontline mountain search and rescue duties to facilitate the professional development and improve service quality. The course covered topics such as mountaineering, mountain search and rescue, etc.
Chief Inspector of QRF NTN Cheung Kin-pan was one of the participants and he expressed that the course content was professional and fruitful. With dual emphasis on theory and practice, the course provided training on mountain search, mountain rescue and the use of search and rescue equipment, thereby equipping trainees with mountaineering knowledge and techniques, as well as strengthening their confidence in performing search and rescue duty. Sergeant of EU NTN Chung Wai-man also found the course very practical. The training boosted trainees’ professional knowledge and skills in mountain search and rescue, and enhanced their confidence in using rope and rescue equipment. He hoped that he could apply the knowledge acquired to save missing persons in future.
The Senior Operations and Training Officer (Tactical Force) of CAS Man Wai-kong concluded the course by encouraging the trainees to strengthen their knowledge and skills in search and rescue and perform frontline duty safely and effectively in emergency mountain accidents. He hoped that the CAS would cooperate with the Police and other rescue units to reduce mountain accidents and save lives.
The course deepened trainees’ understanding of the CAS’s mountain search and rescue work, and promoted collaboration between the two departments in actual operations. Upon completion of the course, trainees were awarded the Certificate in Mountain Search and Rescue Training under the Qualifications Framework Level 3.
