The Cyber Training Section of the Cyber Security and Technology Crime Bureau (CSTCB) strives to provide training to officers on cyber security and investigation of technology crimes to ensure officers are capable of dealing with the ever-changing technology crimes. CSTCB has organised the Professional Certificate in Internet and Network Investigation Course and the Professional Certificate in Open Source Investigation Course since 2009 and 2011 respectively. The two courses had undergone the Internal Learning Programme Accreditation and were successfully accredited by the Hong Kong Police College (HKPC) at Qualifications Framework Level 4 in October 2021.
In order to assure the quality of the two courses and recognise the qualification of officers, CSTCB sought the Internal Learning Programme Accreditation of HKPC in May 2021. The accreditation exercise was scrutinised by the Programme Accreditation Panel, which consisted of five professional members in the field of professional training, information technology and accreditation. The panel conducted rigorous scrutiny of the programmes by reviewing the accreditation submission and training materials, conducting an on-site visit to CSTCB as well as interviewing programme leaders, instructors and examiners. In October 2021, the HKPC’s Quality Assurance Committee unanimously endorsed the accreditation report recommended by the panel and granted the qualification to the programmes. In future, the two courses will be open to other disciplined service officers.
The accreditation not only recognises the professional quality of the programmes, but also contributes to continuing education and lifelong learning of officers. CSTCB thanked HKPC for its support and would continue to seek opportunities for internal accreditation of other programmes in order to enhance the professional standard of CSTCB’s training courses and strengthen the capability of frontline officers in the investigation of technology crimes.
