On June 21 and 22, Deputy Commissioner (Operations) (DCP OPS) Siu Chak-yee attended the 14th Pearls in Policing Conference virtually to meet with 23 police chiefs from 17 countries as well as regional and international police organisations.
“Pearls in Policing” is a global think tank where top executives in law enforcement meet to discuss strategic challenges of their organisations. The annual conference provides the participants with the opportunity to explore the future of their profession through discussions, knowledge exchange and network building. This year, the theme of the conference was “Leading Transformation: Creating the Police Workforce of the Future”. Due to the pandemic, the conference was held online for the first time.
Mong Kok District Commander Ng Chi-chung represented the Hong Kong Police Force (HKPF) in the International Action Learning Group (IALG) which identified and analysed the challenges on the future police workforce in terms of leadership, health and well-being, diversity and demographics, organisational structure and the use of technology. IALG members presented their findings on the first day of the conference and discussed these topics with police leaders.
Apart from sharing his insights with IALG members on the topics, DCP OPS met with various police chiefs in virtual meeting sessions, and exchanged views on future challenges in police recruitment, counter-terrorism, cyber security, proliferation of fake news and the use of technology.
