The Police Karate-Do Club (PKC) organised the Hong Kong Police Karate-Do Invitational Tournament 2019 at the Police Sports and Recreation Club (PSRC) on May 5.
A record of over 300 karate-do practitioners from different sects, schools and universities competed in more than 30 events. The contestants, with the youngest aged three and the eldest 63, demonstrated a very high level of karate-do skills.
At the prize presentation ceremony, Chairman of PKC Mr Young Chi-man said karate-do helps enhance one's agility, flexibility, cardio-respiratory fitness and psychological health. He said the tournament provided an opportunity for the contestants to exchange karate skills and learn about the healthy lifestyle of officers.
In a bid to engage the community, the PKC has joined the Active School Programme since 2015. Officers have offered karate-do training to about 10 primary schools in their spare time.
The PKC holds training sessions at PSRC for officers and their family members, with the adult training sessions running from 7pm to 9pm on Tuesdays, and junior sessions from 7pm to 9pm on Fridays.
