The Regional Public Order Event Investigation Team of Crime Hong Kong Island (HKI) organised a basic training course about Evidence Gathering Teams (EGTs), and presented appointment letters to 82 new members on May 20. Representatives from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau as well as the Police Tactical Unit and Operations Wing of HKI were invited to share their experience in policing public events.
HKI established 10 EGTs in 2015 to gather evidence in public events as a means to deter illegal acts of radical protestors. In a bid to cope with a growing number of public events, HKI set up 10 relieving EGTs in 2016. EGTs HKI have been deployed 245 times since their establishment. This showed their crucial role in policing public events.
