Acting Superintendent of Crime Wing Support Group Cheung Po-yuet and Senior Inspector Hui Nok of the Family Conflict and Sexual Violence Policy Unit (FCSV) and officers of the Social Welfare Department (SWD) held an exchange session with sexual minorities on May 9. Representatives of Les Corner Empowerment Association, Rainbow Action and PrideLab attended the session.

Police officers explained to the attendees the procedures of handling domestic and sexual violence cases as well as support services for victims and their families. SWD officers also outlined support services for sexual minorities, including the PRIDE Line which is a 24-hour hotline operated by the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals. The hotline provides immediate support, counselling and referral services for sexual minorities and their families with a view to helping them relieve stress and overcome difficulties in life. Furthermore, the officers and the attendees exchanged views on the skills and professional sensitivity in handling sexual minorities. This helped increase the officers' understanding of sexual minorities and develop a culture of diversity, tolerance and mutual respect.

The representatives of sexual minorities thanked the Police for organising the event. They hoped that both sides would maintain close contact and enhance mutual trust. The FCSV would continue to reach out to sexual minorities with the aim of optimising the existing mechanism, strengthening training for frontline officers, and providing more effective support to different sectors of the community.
