The Police Debate and Speech Club (PDSC) held its 2nd Annual General Meeting-cum-Anniversary Dinner at Police Headquarters on March 18, with about 50 club members and guests attending, including the guest of honour, Deputy Commissioner (Management) Ma Wai-luk and guests from the Toastmasters International.

 

In his opening address, Mr Ma congratulated PDSC on its success in the past two years and stressed the importance of skills of public speaking to police officers.  

 

Mr Ma also joined the guests from the Toastmasters International to form adjudication panel for a prepared speech contest, the highlight of the evening. Seven club members took part in the contest and each delivered a prepared speech in English lasting five to seven minutes on stage. They demonstrated a high level of standard, confidence and zest, giving the adjudication panel a hard time in selecting the champion.

 

Eventually, Chief Inspector Kristiana Fong from Personnel Wing, won the hearts of the audience with her speech on "Love Yourself First" and was crowned champion as well as winner of the "Most Favourite Speaker" award, followed by Senior Inspector Dorothy Nieh from Operations Wing as 1st runner-up and Senior Inspector Jonathan Yung, from Crime Marine Region as 2nd runner-up.

 

In her closing remarks, PDSC Chairperson, Chief Superintendent Jocelyn Cheung, thanked club members for their valuable support and contributions since the club was formed. Pledging that the club would continue to promote public speaking skills within the Force, she encouraged Force members to enjoy the fun of public speaking.
