Western District (WDIST) unveiled the Phase III of the "Fight Crime Cardboard Cop" project on February 25 before a large gathering of community leaders and other guests.

 

Among the community leaders supporting the project were Chairman of the Central and Western District Council, Mr Yip Wing-shing, Vice-chairman of the Southern District Council, Mr Chan Fu-ming, Chairman of the Central and Western District Fight Crime Committee (DFCC), Mr Yip Chun-nam, Chairman of the Southern DFCC, Mr Leung Ho-kwan, Vice-chairman of the Western District Junior Police Call Honorary President Council, Mr Cheung Pak-fun, and Chairman of the Western Neighbourhood Protection Scheme, Mr Chan Wai-chuen.

 

Speaking at the ceremony, WDIST Commander, Chief Superintendent (CSP) Wise Choy, pointed out that the overall crime figures of WDIST last year remained stable. 

 

Following CSP Choy's speech, Inspector Li Yuet-lun, Officer-in-Charge of the WDIST Intelligence Section, presented the figures of different crimes, with emphasis on modus operandi and preventive measures for scams and technology crimes.

 

During a question-and-answer session, CSP Choy and other police officers had a good exchange of views with the participants, successfully collecting views on the law and order matters and disseminating fight crime messages at the same time.

 

Various community groups took the opportunity to present banners, silver plates and letters of appreciation to a number of outstanding officers from Central and Western Districts.

 

Launched by WDIST in 2012, the "Fight Crime Cardboard Cop" project has been well received by the local community. The launch of the Phase III marked the introduction of the third generation of a male and a female "Fight Crime Cardboard Cops", who will "station" at strategic locations to remind the public to remain more alert to crimes.

 

CSP Choy concluded the event by expressing his sincere appreciation to the local community for their support for the police in preserving stability and safety in WDIST. He pledged that WDIST would continue to take fight-crime initiatives and strengthen communication and co-operation with different sectors of the community.
