Supporting the Strategic Direction of "Supporting Frontline Units", the Operations Wing of Kowloon West (KW) Region recently delivered four one-day workshops on Public Order Event (POE) for 60 Inspectors with less than two-year service.
The workshop focussed on the methods available and importance of engaging with stakeholders, policing objectives, risk assessment, and planning control measures. The participants benefited from the experience of Chief Inspector (CIP) Liauw Ka-kei from Police Public Engagement Office (PPEO) about PPEO work and strategies to support frontline officers. The participants also benefited from the experiences of two POE veterans, Assistant District Commander (Operations), Superintendent Lam Hung-chuen, and CIP (Operations) San Tze-kin, both from Central District.
To give the audience an opportunity to learn how to apply the knowledge gained from the workshop, KW Superintendent (Operations) Steven Tait and KW CIP (Operations) Cheung Wai-wah conducted scenario-based POE planning exercises.
In each workshop, KW Regional Commander Cheung Kwai-kee also spent an hour with the young inspectors, explaining the Force's strategic planning process, the Region's current strengths, and the areas that need to be further improved.
After the workshops, the participants felt that the scenario-based exercises and group discussions enhanced their professional knowledge and skills for POE planning.
