The Tseung Kwan O Division (TKODIV) Volunteer Group, Hong Kong Federation of Youth Groups (HKFYG) Youth Crime Prevention Centre, Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animal (SPCA) and Hong Kong Kennel Club Dog Lovers Group have joined hands in rolling out "Project Animate" to promote animal care among youngsters and prevent juvenile delinquency at the same time.

The project, adopting a multi-agency approach and offering various activities, aims at disseminating animal care messages to youngsters and enlisting public support for prevention of cruelty to animals. For these objectives, TKODIV has also established a community network with the youngsters for preventing youth crimes by projecting the positive image of the Force and sharing positive values with the youngsters.

On February 28 at Tseung Kwan O Stadium, Senior Inspector Chan Shuk-kwan, Officer-in-Charge of the TKODIV Task Force-Sub-unit, kicked off the first-stage activities, which included a dog obedience show and introduction of animal rescue and the related equipment, with the assistance of the TKODIV Volunteer Group, HKFYG social workers, SPCA Inspectors and Hong Kong Kennel Club Dog Lovers Group.

The police volunteers had a lot of interaction with youngsters attending the event on animal care and on how to get along with animals.

More jointly organised activities are on the way under "Project Animate", such as visits to animal adoption centres and animal training centres. Through contacts with animals, youngsters would respect life, realise their own potential and set positive life values.
Apart from promoting animal care, ''Project Animate'' also steers youngsters clear of crimes
