2. I am eligible for application but I am now residing mainland / overseas, how can I apply?

3. How do I be informed of my application progress?
Recruitment Division will usually inform all qualified applicants for police constables of the interview arrangement by email in two to three weeks after submitting their application forms (actual time may vary, depending on the number of applicants being processed). All applicants should therefore check their email mailbox regularly to avoid missing the chance of interview. Applicants should notice that the mail may be diverted to the Bulk/Spam folder or Trash folder automatically in some email systems. Meanwhile, to ensure the opportunity to attend interview, applicants are particularly reminded to pay attention to the content of our email, and complete any forms or reply slips attached by following the instructions.

4. How to join the Auxiliary Undergraduate Scheme (AUS)?
AUS aims at recruiting tertiary institution undergraduates as Auxiliary Police Constables. Starting from 2019/20, all full-time non-final year undergraduates of local higher education institutions are eligible to apply.
Undergraduates, who are interested in the programme, may approach their respective career centres for further information.
5. What is the academic equivalent to the "Professional Diploma in Leadership and Management in Policing" for PI and "Professional Diploma in Policing" for RPC awarded by Police College?
The two Professional Diploma Programmes for PIs and RPCs have earned the vocational accreditation by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualification (HKCAAVQ) under the 7-level Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF), as meeting the accreditation standards at Level 4 (at the same level of an Associate Degree or a Higher Diploma of the academic sector) and QF Level 5 (at the same level of a Bachelor Degree of the academic sector) respectively.
According to the Qualifications Framework Secretariat, each qualification is assigned a QF level to indicate its position in the hierarchy relative to others. Although some of the programmes pitch at the same QF level, they cannot be considered as equivalent/comparable qualifications because of their differences in length, credit size and learning focus.

6. Are the "Professional Diploma in Leadership and Management in Policing" for PI and "Professional Diploma in Policing" for RPC awarded by Police College recognized by the Government or the private sectors as qualifications for specific jobs/posts?
Whether the qualification meets the entry requirements for specific job posts/education and training programmes, applicants are advised to approach the concerned employers (including Government Departments)/institution(s) direct for details.

2. I did not take the Common Recruitment Examination (CRE) after my university graduation. Can I still apply for the post of Police Inspector?
Without CRE result or pass in CRE, you can still apply for the post of Police Inspector but you need to obtain a pass in the English Language Proficiency Test and Chinese Language Proficiency Test for the Police Inspector Written Examination. CRE result is one of the exemptions for the Police Inspector Written Examination.
3. I have completed Grade 12 in the United States. Do I meet the academic entry requirements for Inspector?
In general, completion of Grade 12 in the United States is only equivalent to completion of Form Five in Hong Kong. In case of doubt (e.g. if the Grade 12 course completed by an applicant in a particular school in the United States may be of a standard higher than completion of Form Five in Hong Kong), we will refer the case to the Civil Service Bureau for individual assessment.
4. I studied overseas. Are my academic qualifications acquired equivalent to that obtained locally?
We will refer cases of academic qualifications acquired overseas to the Appointments Division of Civil Service Bureau (CSB) for individual assessment if necessary. In the process of assessment, the standing of the awarding institutions, programmes of study, academic performance of the students (including their academic results) and advice from accreditation authorities will be taken into consideration. The benchmark is whether the overseas qualifications are comparable to the standard of the local ones
The assessment of qualifications is conducted to facilitate the Government in making civil service appointment. The results of assessment will only be applicable to appointment of civil servants and do not mean that the Government recognizes the relevant qualifications, courses or institutions in other respects.
5. I attained overseas academic qualifications but I did not fulfil the Chinese Language Proficiency requirement. Can I still apply for the post of Police Inspector?
Applicants who do not fulfil the Chinese Language Proficiency requirement may still apply for the post. They will be exempted from this requirement if they have a pass in the Chinese Language Proficiency Test for Police Inspector Written Examination.
6. May I apply to the Appointments Division of the Civil Service Bureau (CSB) direct for an individual assessment on my academic qualifications?
Where necessary, the Force will refer your case to the CSB for assessment. However, as an alternative, applicants with non-local educational qualifications may make use of the qualifications assessment service of the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic & Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ). 7. What is Government Standard Examination about?
The Government Standard Examination (GSE) is a test on Chinese language proficiency at Form 5 level. It assists government departments/grades to assess the Chinese language proficiency of job applicants or in-service officers for appointment purposes, and is not open to the public or individual officers.
The GSE consists of two papers:

10. What is “2A3O”?
It means having a pass in two subjects in the HKALE plus three other subjects at Grade C or above in the HKCEE, or equivalent. In the counting of subjects, the following rules should be observed:

13. Is Associate Degree conferred by a local university recognized for application for Inspector?
The qualification of the locally accredited Associate Degree programmes is regarded as equivalent to a Higher Diploma for appointment to civil service posts with academic entry requirements set at Higher Diploma level. It therefore meets the current academic entry requirements of Inspector of Police.
14. Are vocational education qualifications recognized for application for Inspector?
Higher Diploma awarded by the Hong Kong Polytechnic University (formerly the Hong Kong Polytechnic), the City University of Hong Kong (formerly the City Polytechnic of Hong Kong) or the Hong Kong Institute of Vocational Education (formerly technical institutes or technical colleges) are accepted for appointment to the post of Inspector.
15. Can I apply for Police posts if I cannot swim?
You can still apply for Police posts if you cannot swim. However, applicants are encouraged to learn swimming before they attend the foundation training programmes of the Hong Kong Police College. As protecting life is one of the core duties of the Police, trainees will be arranged to attend life-saving training while under foundation training.

4. How long will the selection process take?
For the post of Constable, it would take at least 14 weeks from the time you submit your application until appointment is offered. For the post of Inspector, it would take at least 16 weeks for the whole process.
5. What is Basic Law and National Security Law Test about?
The Basic Law and National Security Law Test (BLNST) paper questions are set in both English and Chinese. It
consists of 20 multiple-choice questions to be completed in 35 minutes. Only those candidates who have passed
the BLNST will be considered for appointment. Answering at least 10 out of 20 questions correctly will be
deemed to have a pass result in the BLNST. The result is of permanent validity.
If an applicant has attended the BLNST arranged by other recruiting bureaux/ departments or the one centrally
administered by Civil Service Bureau, the applicant will be exempted from sitting the BLNST written test again
and can use the previous result as the basis of the BLNST score. The previous BLNST result will be accepted
only upon the production of the original notification letter.

6. When will the physical fitness test be held?
For the post of Constable, the physical fitness test is conducted during the Preliminary Assessment.
For the post of Inspector, the physical fitness test is conducted after the Extended Interview or Final
Interview Board.
7. How can I obtain the assessment report of the selection process?
Applicant has a right of access to his/her personal data collected by the Hong Kong Police
Force in processing his/her application.
If an applicant wishes to obtain a copy of the said data (photocopying charge being HK$1.1 per page), he/she
may complete a Personal Data Access Request Form, sign and send it to the Chief Inspector of Police 1 (REC),
Recruitment Division, Hong Kong Police Force by either way of Fax (2200 4337), mail, or through online
submission.
