According to the Programme Area Accreditation (PAA) status under the Programme Area of “Law Enforcement and Security Studies” granted to the Hong Kong Police College by the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ), Standard Criminal Investigation Courses (SCICs) have been accredited by the Hong Kong Police College. Upon successful completion of the eight-week SCIC training, the Police College will be able to award the graduates with the qualifications that are recognised under the Hong Kong Qualifications Framework (QF), namely the “Professional Certificate in Standard Criminal Investigation for Inspectorate”; the “Professional Certificate in Standard Criminal Investigation for Sergeant” and the “Professional Certificate in Standard Criminal Investigation for Constable” at QF Level 5.

Police officers attached to a District Investigation Team (DIT) or equivalent will proceed to the Work Place Learning (WPL) phase upon completion of the accredited Professional Certificate Programmes. The officers will be required to complete the competency-based assessment – “Professional Development Portfolio” in frontline crime units with satisfactory performance in order to be eligible for the Advanced Diploma awards. Inspectorate officers, Sergeants and Constables who have successfully completed the WPL will be awarded the “Advanced Diploma in Standard Criminal Investigation for Inspectorate”, the “Advanced Diploma in Standard Criminal Investigation for Sergeant” and the “Advanced Diploma in Standard Criminal Investigation for Constable” at QF Level 5 respectively.

These Professional Certificate Programmes and Advanced Diploma Programmes were quality-assured by the Hong Kong Police College through a rigorous accreditation process and recognised under the QF as meeting the accreditation standards at QF Level 5 (at the same level of a Bachelor's degree of the academic sector).

Though the graduates of the Certificate Programmes or the Advanced Diploma Programmes do not equate to having obtained the academic qualification of Bachelor Degree, they possess the ability at the QF Level same as a Bachelor degree in the Force’s vocational and professional training programmes.
