Cycling has become a very popular leisure activity for Hong Kong people in recent years under the promotion by the government and various sectors of the community. As more and more people engage in this activity, various kinds of accidents happen from time to time. Except those who have to be taken to the hospital by ambulances immediately, other cycling accidents which involve slight injury are handled by three first aid institutions, namely Auxiliary Medical Service, St. John Ambulance Association and Hong Kong Red Cross. These institutions set up first aid booths at some cycling accident black spots and provide patrolling service at cycling tracks with a view to providing first aid service on every Saturday, Sunday and public holidays.
On 15 December 2022, TBHQ held a meeting with the above three first aid institutions to discuss about the first aid service provided at cycling tracks. The meeting agreed that publicity on the first-aid services should be enhanced and some cycling accident black spots should be announced to the public. Education through the social media of the Police and publicity campaign should be conducted so as to enhance the safety awareness of the public and reduce accidents concerned.
