Promotion of road safety in Hong Kong was marked a new eraon November 29 with the introduction of a brand-new road safety bus.
The new single-decker, measuring 11 meters in length, was launched by Ms LAM Hiu-tong (Assistant Commissioner of Police (Support)), Prof. HUNG Wai-man (Commissioner of Hong Kong Road Safety Patrol), school supervisor, school principal and chairperson of Parent-Teacher Association of the Rosaryhill School in Wan Chai. Photos of the officiating guests and a group of traffic police dressed infants were also taken in a warm atmosphere.
Equipped with a lecture centre, a simulated driving game, a road safety quiz and interactive games as well as facilities for people with disabilities, the bus is invaluable in helping to disseminate road safety messages to road user groups from different age groups.
Hong Kong Police started making use of a road safety bus as early as the 1970s, to promote road safety messages to the community especially young children. The road safety bus has been deployed to schools, housing estates, youth and community service center for conveying road safety messages throughout Hong Kong effectively. Over the past 15 years, the old road safety bus has been effective in facilitating over 660 000 members of the public and has been formally retired.
After its debut, the bus will make its way into road safety publicity activities at various districts and enhance road safety public awareness so as to achieve the vision of “Zero Accidents On the Road, Hong Kong’s Goal”.
