Marine Police seize contraband worth $20 million
Marine Police yesterday (November 29) arrested a man and seized a large quantity of electronic products worth $20 million in Lantau North.
About 6pm yesterday, officers of Marine Outer Waters District and Marine West Division on an anti-smuggling operation spotted a suspicious cargo vessel near Kwai Shek in Lantau North. Officers continued surveillance of the vessel and noticed that goods were being unloaded onto four speedboats at Luk Keng Bay. When police officers swooped, the four speedboats sped away but the cargo vessel was intercepted and the male on the vessel was arrested.
A large quantity of contraband electronic products, including computer hard disks, central processing units, memory cards and some electronic medical products, worth $20 million were seized.
The 71-year-old man was arrested for allegedly assisting in the export of unmanifested cargo. The case will be handed over to the Customs and Excise Department for further action.
