Four jailed for conspiracy to defraud
Four people who had been involved in a modelling fraud have been sentenced to imprisonment ranging from four years to four and a half year today (November 29).
The District Court heard that 51 people were lured by a fictitious modelling agency in Tsim Sha Tsui to pay an administrative fee ranging from $5,000 to $130,000 to become contract models between September 2003 and September 2005. They were also promised with lucrative modelling jobs but the promises had never been realised. The victims later complained to the Police after the agency closed down in September 2005. The amount involved totalling over $1.2 million.
Commercial Crime Bureau (CCB) officers later arrested three men and a woman aged from 25 to 46. They were subsequently charged with conspiracy to defraud and dealing with property known or believed to represent proceeds of an indictable offence.
Police reminded all job seekers to be cautious of all possible fraudulent schemes. For enquiries and complaints of such crimes, they are advised to call the CCB at 2860 5013 or any police stations.
