Couple sentenced over passing counterfeit banknotes
A 33-year-old Hong Kong man was today (September 24) jailed for 18 months after being convicted of passing counterfeit bank notes.
His 34-year-old Vietnamese wife also given an 18-month sentence, but it was suspended for three years.
Eastern Magistracy was told that on March 27, the man went to a bank in Kowloon Bay to deposit 10 HK$1,000 banknotes into his wife's personal account. The bank teller, suspecting that the banknotes were counterfeit, contacted Police. The man was arrested at the bank and his wife was arrested later the same day when she visited Sau Mau Ping Police Station to see her husband.
The Commercial Crime Bureau took over the case for further investigations and the couple was later charged with conspiracy to pass counterfeit banknotes.
