Fatal traffic accident in Lok Ma Chau

Police are investigating a traffic accident in Lok Ma Chau this morning (September 23) in which a 50-year-old man was killed.

About 7.05am, Police received a report that a private car was found hitting the central divider on Yuen Long-bound carriageway of San Tin Highway near San Tin Interchange. It then dashed to the bank of a police platform on the nearside and subsequently fell onto a river bank nearby and caught fire.

Police and firemen arrived at the scene. After the fire was extinguished by firemen, a charred body was found inside the car compartment.

Following initial investigations, it was believed that the body was the 50-year-old male driver of the private car.

Investigations by the Special Investigation Team of Traffic, New Territories North, are under way.
