Police foil TST armed robbery (with photos)

Swift Police action believed to have neutralized an armed robbery syndicate following the arrest of five mainland men today (July 11).

Acting on intelligence, officers from the Organized Crime and Triad Bureau (OCTB) mounted an operation in Mong Kok and Tsim Sha Tsui this afternoon.

At about 1 pm, officers raided a hotel room in Mong Kok district where a 34-year-old mainland man was arrested. A subsequent search on the room lead to the seizure of a number of exhibits including one hammer, several pairs of labour gloves, two plastic knife sheaths and several sticks of glues.

Shortly afterwards, officers arrested four other mainland men, aged between 20 and 29, on Salisbury Road in Tsim Sha Tsui. Police found an air pistol, two beef knives, one hammer and four baseball caps in their possession.

Investigations revealed that the arrested males who were planning to rob jewelry shops in Tsim Sha Tsui area. Enquiries also showed that the four men arrested in Tsim Sha Tsui had smeared glue on their fingertips to avoid leaving any fingerprints on their weapons as well as other places they visited.

The five men, all are two-way permit holders and arrived in Hong Kong yesterday, will be detained overnight for further enquiries. Investigations by OCTB are continuing.
