Man sentenced for publishing of obscene articles offence
A 48-year-old local man was convicted of publishing of obscene articles and sentenced to a $5,000 fine at the Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts today (May 10).
The court heard that the man had posted "hyperlinks" within a message on an Internate forum website in November 2006 and the "hyperlinks" would automatically display the obscene articles.
The Technology Crime Division of the Commercial Crime Bureau took over the case for investigations upon report received and arrested the man in March 2007. He was subsequently charged and the sentence was handed down today.
The Hong Kong Police Force is committed and determined to clamp down on the publication of obscene articles on the Internet. Member of the public are reminded that publishing obscene articles on local Internet forum is an offence under Cap 390 of the Control of Obscene and Indecent Articles Ordinance. Anyone, who has committed this offence is liable to a fine of $1,000,000 and to imprisonment for three years.
