Appeal for information on attempted suicide case in Wong Tai Sin

Police are appealing for information on an attempted suicide case in which a 21-year-old woman carrying a two-year-old boy attempted to commit suicide by jumping off a footbridge in Wong Tai Sin on April 23.

At about 3.20 pm on April 23, a 29-year-old man made a report to Police that he found the 21-year-old woman holding half a bottle of suspected sterilizer in hand with her two-year-old son standing in a dangerous position at the footbridge connecting Tin Ma Court and Wang Tau Hom Estate. The informant shouted to stop the woman who then fled towards Fung Mo Street with her son.

Upon reaching the junction of Lung Cheung Road and Fung Mo Street, the woman carrying with the boy rushed out to the southbound carriageway of Fung Mo Street where an approaching mud truck managed to stop. The woman and the boy were not injured and they went up the footbridge connecting Morse Park Swimming Pool and the Pentecoastal Holiness Church Wing Kwong College where they were located by the Police.

Both the woman and the boy were sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital where they are admitted in serious and in stable condition respectively.

The 21-year-old woman had been charged with one count of ill-treatment of neglect by those in charge of child or young person. The case will be heard at Kwun Tong Magistrates' Courts tomorrow (April 26). Investigations by District Crime Squad of Wong Tai Sin are underway.

Anyone, in particular the mud truck driver who managed to stop to avoid hitting the woman on Fung Mo Street, who had witnessed the case or has information to offer is urged to contact the investigating officers on 2352 9477 or 2352 9456.
