Fugitive to be surrendered to the United Kingdom
A 43-year-old Hong Kong man wanted in connection with a murder case in the United Kingdom (UK) was ordered today (April 18) to be surrendered to the UK Government from Hong Kong.
The order was made following an extradition hearing at Eastern Magistrates' Court between April 16 and 18 this year.
In August 2000, a request was made from the UK Government to Hong Kong Government for the arrest and extradition of the fugitive to face a charge of a murder case which occurred in Belfast, Northern Ireland in June 1998.
The Hong Kong Police have been providing assistance on the investigation to their counterparts in Northern Ireland since the request was made. On August 31, 2006, the fugitive was arrested at his residence in Kowloon by the Hong Kong Police.
An order was made at Eastern Magistrates' Court today to surrender the fugutive to the UK Government.
