HK Police Youth Road Safety Quiz concluded
The final of the "Bank of China (Hong Kong) ¡X Hong Kong Police Youth Road Safety Quiz" concluded today (March 10) at the Police Headquarters.
The Quiz was organised in two phases by the Police and sponsored by the Bank of China (Hong Kong) ("BOCHK") to promote road safety awareness among students and youngsters with a view to reducing traffic accidents.
In the first phase of the Quiz, an on-line quiz was held for primary and secondary students as well as young people aged between 18 and 30. Response was encouraging with about 100,000 entries received.
Four secondary schools with the highest marks scored by their students in the first phase of the Quiz took part in the final. The top four prizes went to CNEC Christian College, Bishop Hall Jubilee School, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals Kwok Yat Wai College and Tuen Mun Government Secondary School respectively.
Speaking before the final quiz, the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Operations), Mr Yam Tat-wing, said: "The Force spares no effort to promote road safety messages. We organise and participate in different kinds of road safety publicity activities frequently in the hope of minimising traffic accidents."
He praised the participants for their enthusiasm and urged them to convey the road safety messages to their schoolmates, friends and families.
"I hope that with the active participation of the community in disseminating the road safety messages, Hong Kong will continue to be one of the safest cities in the world," Mr Yam added.
There were 135 fatal traffic accidents in 2006, a drop of 2.9 per cent compared to 2005, the lowest in 49 years.
Mr David Lam Yim-nam, Deputy Chief Executive of BOCHK, said: "Younger generations are important road users and future drivers. It is our intention of sponsorship of the Road Safety Quiz to help foster road safety awareness amongst the youth and encourage them to adhere to road safety through interactive education and affecting behaviors of their fellows and families."
"With the large-scale and in-depth education and publicity campaigns conducted by the Police, together with the concerted efforts of citizens and youngsters, we believe that a metropolis like Hong Kong remains one of the world's safest cities for road users," Mr Lam added.
In addition, the Border District Junior Police Call (JPC) District Council outshone 20 JPC teams in the "JPC Road Safety Project Competition".
