Man charged with false accounting offences
Police today (February 8) charged a 58-year-old man with false accounting-related offences.
The man was wanted by Hong Kong Police for a case of false accounting reported in 1993 involving some $41.4 million. He was arrested in New York by the United States authorities in May 2006 and was extradited to Hong Kong yesterday (February 7).
He was charged with one count of evasion of liability by deception, eight counts of false accounting, 22 counts of procuring the making of an entry in the record of a bank by deception and 15 counts of using a copy of a false instrument.
He will appear in the Eastern Magistrates' Courts this afternoon.
